For the Love of Drawing
Spring 2020: May 2 - 9
Instructor: Carolyn Fee

Engaging in, and expanding, the processes in the For the Love of Drawing methodology, the subjects we’ll be focusing on are plein air drawing and sketching, developing your proficiency, and deepening your awareness, and mastery, of the process of creative expression. We’ll be drawing on

location at the magnificent Chateau de Courtanveux, Chateau de Lavardin, Jardins de Sasnieres, and in the extraordinary cave town of Trôo. Our small group size allows for ample one on one instruction and the cultivation of your personal interests and style. I hope you’ll decide to join us for this adventure!

When you draw, you are touching the world in an original way. Awaken to the extraordinary and transient nature of form. Learn drawing methods which create meditative and mindful experience. Enjoy relaxed, alert awareness and a pleasurable, rather mystical activation of the mind. Drawing is a curious process, so intertwined with seeing that the two can hardly be separated. It is a mode of perception, and a shift in perception enables anyone to see the way an artist sees. We will be working with a method of drawing that enables you, by conscious volition, to make that shift. The visual, spatial, and relational will come forth and you will engage in seeing more deeply. Drawing is the art of noticing, a discipline by which you constantly rediscover the world. Focusing on the language of form as we draw, we will engage in pointed mindfulness. For the time being the split between the observer and the observed will diminish. Engaging in creative activity can create greater mindfulness in all our endeavors as one experience informs the other. Mindfulness is the process of noticing new things; when you do that it puts you in the present, it’s the essence of engagement. Beginners and non-beginners are welcome.

Holiday Director Kate Kilbourne

Holiday Director Kate Kilbourne

Kate Kilbourne has owned the Cave Yuccas property since 2000.  In 2005 she began restoring the cottage above the cave which she now rents out as a vacation home (see cave-yuccas.com).  Kate is an excellent bilingual guide to the local markets, chateaux, and vineyards, and she will do everything she can to make your week in this ancient troglodyte village a magically memorable holiday.

I’m delighted to be partnering with Kate Kilbourne to offer a one week workshop in the small cave town of Trôo, in the lush

Loire Valley. We’ll be engaging in and expanding upon the For the Love of Drawing methodology while luxuriating in the

chateau gardens and the extraordinary town of Trôo. Our small group size will allow for ample one on one instruction and the

cultivation of your personal interests and style. Beginners and non beginners are welcome to join us for this adventure!

We will be walking up and down hills -- participants should be comfortable with carrying their gear on steep slopes, footpaths and stairs.  Not recommended for people with limited mobility.

Exquisite lodging in Trôo at

Le Château de la Voûte

Stay in this beautiful "petit chateau de charme" with it's manicured gardens, towers, troglodyte swimming pool, sauna, steam bath and gym in the old stables.  Studio space for painting indoors available.

The bedrooms are decorated with authentic period antiques, hardwood floors, and tastefully appointed en suite bathrooms.  Fabulous views from all rooms, including the ground floor dining rooms and salons where you can read, play the piano, or a game of chess in the library.  There are caves housing a game room and the swimming pool, and a double jacuzzi in a tower.

An exquisite family-owned bijou of a chateau in an extraordinary cave village setting... it's the best of both worlds.
